of Westfield, Mass., and of the towns of Hebron and Kent (now Warren) in Conn.

Jonathan Sacket was born and grew to manhood in the town of Westfield.
Immediately after his marriage to Abigail Ashley he took possession of a small farm at Hebron, Conn., which he had purchased the previous year. There is some uncertainty as to just when he removed from Hebron to Kent. The records of Kent show that in the year 1745, "Jonathan Sacket, of Hebron," purchased from one Joseph Fuller, certain lands in that town, and that in 1749 he purchased from one Joseph Phillips another tract in same town. These records also show that in 1749 he conveyed certain lands in the town of Kent to his son, Jonathan Sacket, Jr.

Jonathan and Ann had the following children:

223 F i Anne Sacket-201 was born on 12 Jun 1726. She died in in infancy.
+ 224 M ii Jonathan Sacket-202
+ 225 M iii Capt. Justus Sackett-203
+ 226 M iv Reuben Sackett-204
227 M v Aaron Sacket-205 was born in Aug 1735. He died on 11 Nov 1758 in Warren, Litchfield Co., CT..

Weygant says that 205-Aaron "probably died in childhood." [p. 52] Weygant also included an Aaron in the family of Jonathan, Jr.,
647. Aaron Sackett, b. in 1758.
648. Abigail Sacket, b. in 1758. [page 108]

However, Barbour's "Collection of Town Vital Records" does not show a son named Aaron born into the family of Jonathan, Jr. but he has an Aaron who died in 1758:
"Aaron Sackett Son of Jonathon, d. Nov 11, 1758." [Vol 1, page 63]

But Barbour does show a daughter Abigail born in 1758 to Jonathan, Jr. and does not indicate that she was a twin. "Abigail Sackett dau of Jonahan jr. & Hannah b. Feb 3, 1758." [Vol 1, page 185] It also appears that the birth records for the family of 202-Jonathan jr. were recorded on page 185 of Vol. 1 of the town records. The record of the death of an "Aaron Sacket, s. of Jonathan, d. Nov. 11, 1758" is recorded on page 63 of Vol. 1 of the Warren Ct. records.

There was a discussion on the [email protected] concerning the identity of the John Sacket who was made Guardian of William Sacket Some accepted John, brother of Samuel and uncle of William. I believe the evidence points to William's grandfather, John Sacket as the Guardian:

Subj: Re: [SACKETT-L] Re: John Sacket Guardian to William

Don & All on the list:

In checking the background of the family of John Sacket (1632-1719), I find that Samuel Sacket, son of John, died 1709 in the French and Indian War. Weygant shows that Samuel's widow, Elizabeth (Bissell) Sacket m. 1712 to John Root.

From the guardianship for her oldest son William, 6 Sep 1716; it would appear that maybe William didn't get along very well with his step-father (just guessing). In the second paragraph it is stated: "The condition of the above written obligation is such That whereas William Sacket ye son of Sam'll Sacket of Westfield deceased hath made choice of the above s'd John Sackut to be his Guardian and allowed of by the s'd judge..." This would indicate that William was the one desiring a different guardian and he chose John Sacket.

However, I believe the John Sacket named as guardian was John Sacket, Sr., grandfather of William; and not his uncle, John Sacket, Jr.

My reason for this belief is found in the will of John Sacket, Sr. found on pages 17-18 of "The Sacketts of America" by Charles Weygant. In it he gives special consideration to his grandson William:

"Imprimus. I give and bequeath to Sarah my well beloved wife, all the use & improvement of all my Estate both real and personal during the whole of her natural life if she shall outlive me, that is to say, all that I shall be possessed of at my decease.
Imp'rs. I give to my son John Sacket five shillings, and to my son William's children five shillings, and my son Samuel's children 5 shillings.
Imp'rs. I give to William Sacket my Grandson, the son of Sam'll Sacket deceased, after myself and my wives decease, my Team and Tackling & all ye furniture therunto belonging and two plows, cart wheels & all belonging unto them, and a harrow & what belongs to it, and I likewise make & ordain him viz. - my grandson William Sacket, Executor of this my last Will & Testament."

This shows that he made William Sacket executor of his will while William was only about 16-18 years old. John Sacket died the following year and in the probate of his will we have the following:

"...Which s'd Will I approve & allow of, and do appoint John Sacket ye son of ye said deceased to be an administrator on ye said will with ye Executor in the said will named till ye said Executor comes of ye age of twenty one years
Samuel Partridge"

I believe that this preferential treatment of his grandson William would indicate that John, Sr. was the one William chose to be his guardian. ...

Boltwood, pgs 570-71:

#5165. Luke Noble, s. of Sargt. Luke, was b. in Westfield, Mass., Oct 23, 1700, and d. in Great Barrington, Mass., abt Mch. 27, 1773, age abt. 77. He was by trade a blacksmith, and removed abt. 1743, from Westfield to Great Barrington, and owned and lived upon the palce, in the south part of the village, now, 1875, Edward Mauvel's, until 1759, when he sold it to Nathaniel Lee, and afterwards lived near by, on the opposite side of the street.

The last named place, in 1772, he mortgaged to John Williams and the mortgage had not been discharged at the time of his death, in 1778. He evidently died poor. The town, about 1778, appointed a committee to inquire into the condition of Luke Noble's property, perhaps because he was a town charge. Administration on his estate was granted Jan. 5, 1779, to William Whiting of Great Barrington. the date of his death is inferred from the following entry on the books of Dr. William Whiting, under date of March 27, 1778: "Town Dr. To Holland shirt to lay out Luke Noble in 12s." Whiting was a physician, a justice, and at that time a selectman.
