Howe Island Anniversaries
Island Couple Have 50th Anniversary Sunday, Sept 30 was a memorable day for Mr. and Mrs. Israel Garrah of Howe Island, it being their golden wedding anniversary. The bride and groom of 50 years were married at St. Philomena's Church, Howe Island, by the Rev. Father O'Gorman with Miss Fanny Leavis as bridsmaid and Michael McCarthy as best man, both of whom were present on Sunday to offer congradulations. The marriage was blessed with seven children, all of whom are still living and were able to be with their parents on their anniversary. They are" (Evelyn) Mrs. William Martin, Portsmouth; Raymond of Kingston; (Frances)Mrs. Arnold Dorey, Gananoque; (Mabel)Mrs. Edward Murchie, Brewers Mills; Elroy of Wilton; (Loretta) Mrs. Frank Quinn and Ira of Howe Island. THere are 32 grandchildren, alll of whom were present with the exception of the two eldest, Kenneth Martin, who is serving with the RCAF in Labrador and Gene Garrah of Kingston. On Sunday afternoon the bride and groom of 50 years were at home to their many friends and neighbors. Rev.
