Island Couple Have 50th Anniversary
Sunday, Sept 30 was a memorable day for Mr. and Mrs. Israel Garrah
of Howe Island, it being their golden wedding anniversary.
The bride and groom of 50 years were married at St. Philomena's
Church, Howe Island, by the Rev. Father O'Gorman with Miss Fanny
Leavis as bridsmaid and Michael McCarthy as best man, both of
whom were present on Sunday to offer congradulations.
The marriage was blessed with seven children, all of whom are
still living and were able to be with their parents on their
anniversary. They are" (Evelyn) Mrs. William Martin, Portsmouth;
Raymond of Kingston; (Frances)Mrs. Arnold Dorey, Gananoque;
(Mabel)Mrs. Edward Murchie, Brewers Mills; Elroy of Wilton;
(Loretta) Mrs. Frank Quinn and Ira of Howe Island. THere are 32
grandchildren, alll of whom were present with the exception of
the two eldest, Kenneth Martin, who is serving with the RCAF in Labrador
and Gene Garrah of Kingston.
On Sunday afternoon the bride and groom of 50 years were at home
to their many friends and neighbors. Rev. Father Terrion, PP of Howe Island
, honored the couple with his presence during the afternoon,

almost sure it is Nelson White, his wife Catherine Cassidy, Helen Grace Balzell
wife of James Leavis, James Leavis. James is a brother of Margaret and Fanny. Nelson White
and wife were friends that also lived on the island.

Jane (Fanny). Fanny is in the wedding photo that I just sent. They lived on
lot 4 on Howe Island which became my homestead in the early forties. Two of
the 9 children of Eliz. Cox 1826-1904 and Simon Leavis 1826-1905."
