"A letter from JANE SLUMAN WALKER (1824-1924), of Wolfe Island to her son Lewis WALKER (1848-1908) and his wife Elizabeth CARENS. Jane was the wife of Henry WALKER and the daughter of Thomas Sluman (1788-1857) & Mary Parsons (1790-?) who settled on Wolfe Island as early as 1835. The letter is through the courtesy Kathleen Fordyce Halbert, 3rd Great-Grandaughter of Jane Sluman Walker. Jane Sluman was my Great-Great Grandfather Gilbert Sluman�s sister" (Chris Morrell)


Wolfe Island Jan 19
1879

My dear Lewis & Lizzy I were
so glad to hear that you were
all well I hope baby is growing
strong give it plenty of fresh
air and a dose of castor oil
once a week and feed it
once a day and then there will
be no danger of baby takeing
my fever we have had very
cold weather since Christmas
and the snow is a great
depth bread is 7c per loaf

dear Lewis do you get
employment enough to keep your
family comfortable those hard times you do...

Albert, Frank and Gertie
is going to school Edwin
is working for Mr. Kyle
Rodney is working for W. Keyes
Ottawa as got to be quite
a lively place since the
princess of lorn came there
to live moris Langen was
married last monday lewis
I said on my last letter
that Rodney was going to
manatoba this winter but they are
not wanted there now have you
got the baby baptised yet
Ennie is going out to Kaylero
this winter. old Mr. Wills is
got to be very feeble
your brother and sisters
all join me in kind love to you and Lizzie
