David was born at
Co. Antrim, Ireland, in 1713. He was the son of
Alexander Chesnut and
Mary O'Draine. He married
Jennet Brown at
Ireland in 1739. David Chesnut immigrated in 1772; Came to America from Ireland in 1772. David Chestnut, also spelled Chesnut, evidently came from Ireland with the William Martin Colony of Covenanters but there is no ship record of his coming through the port of Charleston. It is also thought that David Chesnut came with his father, who settled in western Virginia and that David later moved south to South Carolina. He made a will at
Chester Co., South Carolina, on 22 April 1778. David died on 22 April 1778 at
Craven Co., South Carolina. His body was interred in April 1778 at
Hopewell, Chester Co., South Carolina, at Moffatt-Strong-McDill Cemetery. There is no stone marking his grave..
