John was born at
York Co., Pennsylvania, on 16 March 1870. He was the son of
Adam S. Dellinger and
Henrietta Gohn. He resided at
Yorkana, York Co., Pennsylvania, in 1891. He married
Maria Jane Stine at
Zion Lutheran, York, York Co., Pennsylvania, on 31 December 1891. John was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census at
Springettsbury Twp., York Co., Pennsylvania. He died on 24 April 1939 at
Elmwood, York Co., Pennsylvania, at age 69. He was New Tag Obituary from in a 26 April 1939 York Co., Pennsylvania newspaper:
"JOHN C. DELLINGER, 69, FOUND DEAD IN SHED
John C. Dellinger, 69, husband of Mariah Dellinger, 1600 First avenue, Elmwood, was found hanging from a rafter in a woodshed at the rear of his home about 6 o'clock yesterday morning by his wife. It is believed that he had been dead for at least eight hours before his body was found. He left his house Monday evening, failed to return during the night, and his wife was hunting for him when she discovered his body.
Her screams aroused the neighborhood and a call was sent for Patrolman C.H. Armstrong, of the Spring Garden township police department. In the meantime, two employes of the Banks Construction company, which is laying sewers in the vicinity, hastened to the scene and cut down the victim's body. The workers were Henry Eichelberger and James Mitzel.
An examination of the body by Coroner Zech and Dr. Richard Klussman indicated that Dellinger had been dead at least since midnight.
His widow and their son, Oliver Dellinger and a daughter, Mrs. Walter Boeman, West York, and four grandchildren are his survivors. No motive advanced for the man's deed.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the funeral home of A.F. Koller, 1415 West Market street. Interment will be made in Mt. Rose cemetery."

Ralph Lind, was the officiating minister. The following relatives and friends of the deceased served as pallbearers: W. Boeman, Rodger Dellinger, O.E. Reom and W. Greisbach. Interment was made in Mt. Rose cemetery."
