South Carolina on 22 February 1763. He was the son of
Justice John Gaston and
Esther Waugh. He married
Jane Brown at
Chester Co., South Carolina, on 20 April 1790. Joseph died on 10 October 1836 at age 73.

Joseph Gaston was born in 1700 at
Ireland. He was the son of
John Gaston. Joseph Gaston immigrated circa 1720 to
Perth Amboy, Middlesex Co., New Jersey; Records from the Gaston family Bible indicate that Joseph came to America around 1720, landing in New Jersey.
It is believed that his brothers, Hugh, John and Alexander also came over around this same time. He married
Margaret (?). Joseph Gaston left a will on 31 March 1777; Joseph's will was writen on 31 March 1777, and probated in May 1777. In the will it mentions the following heirs: his wife, Margrete; children, Robert, Joseph, Martha, Margaret Kirkpatrick, and Prucilla; and grandchildren, William and Joseph Gaston, John, Stephen, Elizabeth, Isaac and Margaret Gaston - children of Joseph's deceased son John; and Joseph, William and John Chambers - children of David Chambers. Executors were his sons Robert and Joseph Gaston and David Kirkpatrick. He died in April 1777 at
Bernard Twp., Somerset Co., New Jersey.
