Active Church Worker And Well-Known Retired Farmer Expires At Age of 63
FUNERAL ON FRIDAY
Delroy, June 20 - Charles W. Abel, active church worker and well-known retired farmer, died at 10:30 o'clock this morning at his house near here. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. He was 63 years old.
Mr. Abel was born in Lower Windsor township, a son of the late Moses and Mary Hengst Abel. He was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1930. He was an active member of Canadochly Lutheran church, having served 15 years on the church council and also was financial secretary. He belonged to the Sunday school class taught by Luther L. Ruby.
A charter member of the Canadochly Cemetery association, Mr. Abel served in the capacity of superintendent for a period of seven years until ill health forced him to give up the position. He was a member of Winona lodge, No. 944, I.O.O.F. East Prospect.
Surviving besides his widow, Mrs. Katie J. Abel, are six children; Clarence, York R.D. 3; John, Hallam R.D. 1; Charles, Hallam; Mrs. Raymond Reever, Hallam R.D. 1; Mrs. Albert Throne, Hallam, and Mrs. Albert Poff, Hallam; 12 grandchildren, six sisters, Mrs. Reuben Forry, Manheim; Mrs. Elmer Lindsay, Highmount; Mrs. Maurice Campbell, Wrightsville; Mrs. Walter Dellinger, Highmount; Mrs. Walter Sloat, York and Mrs. Victor Crumbling, Baltimore; also four brothers, Arthur Abel, York; Henry Abel, Marietta; Edward Abel, East Prospect, and Benjamin Westley Abel, Akron, O.
The funeral will be held Friday with brief services at the home at 1:30 p.m. (EST) and further services at Canadochly Lutheran church. Rev. Glenn T. Hafer, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be made in Canadochly cemetery. Funeral Directors Edward Etzweiler and Son, Wrightsville, are in charge of arrangements."
