In 1855 he was appointed an Aid on the Staff of Governor Pollock with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was President of the York National Bank, Farmer's Fire Insurance Company, York Gas Company, York and Gettysburg Turnpike Company and Treasurer of York and Liverpool and York and Maryland Line Turnpike Companies. George was born on 21 January 1822. He was the son of GeorgeHersh and NancyMcClellan. He married Charlotte Ellen HamiltonCox on 25 April 1855. George died on 3 September 1895 at age 73.
