York, Kenneth R. Hoover Sr., 70, of York, died at 9:15 a.m. Friday at his home. The service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with military rites by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Viewings will be 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
Mr. Hoover was born Oct. 30, 1924 in York. He was the son of Mamie (Witmer) Hoover of York and the late Christian B. Hoover.
He retired in 1986 from American National Can Co. in Lemoyne after 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Etters Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, and Thirteenth Ward Political Club.
Mr. Hoover also is survived by two sons, Kenneth Hoover, Jr. of York, and Richard Hoover of Oberlin; two daughters, Kathy Hickman of York and Marcia Dellinger of Manchester; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; four brothers, Gene Hoover, Raymond Hoover and Russell Hoover, all of York, and Christian Hoover, Jr. of Dover; and four sisters, Flossie Goodwin and Elva Gibbs, both of Dover, and Betty Wentz of York Haven, and Peggy Hoover of York. Mr. Hoover was the companion of Helen Boileau of York.
Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Iva L. O'Brien, pastor of York Haven and Pleasant Grove United Methodist churches.
