Thomas Hudson1,2 (M)
b. 20 November 1763, d. 11 March 1843

Last name also given as Hutson.

Thomas and his father-in-law, Jacob Helsley, appear on page 194 of "A History of Shenandoah County, VA" by John Wayland. Additional references may be found on pages 226 and 443.

On page 442 of this book, Wayland refers to a Benjamin Hudson as the the donor of the land for the Reformed Church at Hudson Cross Roads. Is that Benjamin related to the Benjamin Hudson, son of Thomas Hudson, who would have been 49 years old at the time?

In Thomas Hudson's family Bible, it is reportably stated that Thomas' father was Richard Hudson. There was a Richard Hudson in the 1783 census for Shenandoah Co., head of household with 8 whites. Thomas was born at Virginia on 20 November 1763. He married Dorothy Helsley at Shenandoah Co., Virginia, on 31 August 1784. Thomas registered to pay taxes at Shenandoah Co., Virginia, in 1787. Thomas died on 11 March 1843 at Shenandoah Co., Virginia, at age 79. His body was interred in March 1843 at Conicville, Shenandoah Co., Virginia. Thomas' tombstone is inscribed with the following statement:

"He was a Soldier in the Revolution of 1776".

Mary Salina Huett (F)
b. 5 November 1815, d. 31 January 1892
Pop-up Pedigree

Mary was born at North Carolina on 5 November 1815. She was the daughter of Lewis Huit and Sarah Lutz. As a girl Mary Salina Huett and her sister Melvina came to Lawrence Co., Indiana and lived in various places. Mary attended school in Bedford at one time. Her mother remarried a man named John Head. Mrs. Head and her two daughters were charter members of the Methodist Church of Bedford around the year of 1826. While still young ladies, Mary Salina and her sister Melvina rode horseback to Lincoln Co., North Carolina to sell their slaves and returned with the money to Lawrence Co. In 1832 the sisters turned up at a public sale and bid on a farm best known now (1984) as the Ed Reuter farm in Lawrence Co. Mary Salina won the bid then went to her horse for the gold in the saddle bag. She took the gold into the place and poured it on the table. This was her "slave money." When Mary Salina married James Wood they started housekeeping on the Ed Reuter farm. She married James Wood at Indiana on 19 December 1837. Mary died on 31 January 1892 at Indiana at age 76.
