"Missing Man Found Dead On Mountain
Paris - A Paris businessman, missing since Tuesday morning, was found dead at Brown Spring, atop Mt. Magazine, last night, his wrists slashed.
Sheriff Pete Carter said John Knox, 50, who came here from Little Rock four months ago to go into the broiler and feed business, apparently committed suicide. Several razor blades and an opened pocketknife were found in Knox coat pocket.
Carter said the man apparently slashed his wrists in his car, parked in a picnic areas, then crawled 75 yards and down a flight of stone steps to reach the spring.
Knox had been the object of a wide search here since he was last seen Tuesday driving away from the Hixson-Knox Broiler & Feed Co., which he operated with his brother-in-law, Harold Hixson. Last night two Little Rock tourists, whose names were not learned, noticed a car apparently abandoned in the picnic area on the lofty mountain. They recognized the license number which had been broadcast repeatedly during the day, and notified Booneville police.
Sheriff Carter and Hixson went to the scene where they identified Knox' body. Hixson said Knox had been despondent recently.
Knox, who formerly lived at 1603 Arch, Little Rock, is survived by his widow, and a sister, Miss Effie Knox, Park Hill. His body is at Cox Funeral Home pending completion of funeral arrangements."
He was buried in May 1952 at
Oakland Cemetery, Monticello, Drew Co., Arkansas.
