Goldia Ethel Marshall was born on 18 September 1902 at
Chalmers, White Co., Indiana. She was the daughter of
John Milton Marshall and
Emma Rose Dillard. Goldia Ethel Marshall married
Harry Franklin Shigley, son of
Charles H. Shigley, on 29 April 1926 at
Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. Goldia Ethel Marshall died on 6 October 1991 at
Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana, at age 89. She was New Tag Obituary
"Goldia Marshall Shigley, 89, formerly of Chalmers, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, October 6, 1991 at George Davis Manor, West Lafayette. She had been a patient there since September 19.
She was born on September 18, 1902 in Chalmers to Milt and Emma Dillard Marshall. She married Harry F. Shigley on April 29, 1926 and he died on January 27, 1966.
She was a Chalmers High School graduate. She received her teaching certificate from Madam Blaker's in Indianapolis, Indiana. She taught all her life in White County. Her first assignment was teaching grades 1 - 8 at Watson School near Wolcott. She taught at Spring Creek near Brookston. He third teaching assignment was first grade at Chalmers from 1922 - 35 and then first and second grades there from 1935 - 52. She taught second grade at Brookston from 1953 - 1956. For eight years she did not teach on a regular basis. In 1964 she returned to Chalmers as a first grade teacher and stayed there until retirement in May 1969. She and four other teachers were honored by the Chalmers Civic Club in 1982 for their years of service within what is now Frontier School Corp.
She was a member of Chalmers Community Church. She was an inactive life member of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority, Chalmers and a former member of the Book Club, White County Teachers Association and National Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Tessie Rogers of Ashland, Ohio and Mrs. Edith Oliak of Douglas, Arizona and several nieces and nephews, two brothers and three sisters are deceased." In October 1991. She was buried in October 1991 at
Chalmers K. of P. Cemetery, Chalmers, White Co., Indiana.
