Died during the Civil War of wounds suffered at Petersburg, Virginia. Was a First Lieutenant with the 23rd Regiment of the South Carolina Volunteers. BURIED: Moffatt, Strong, McDill Graveyary. His tombstone reads: Lt. John Harvey McDill Son of Col. James and Jane McDill Born 17 October 1838 Died of wounds received at Petersburg, Va. 30 July 1864 aged 25 years 6 months 13 days Graduated at Erskine College 1859 He was a member of Hopewell A.R.P. Church. His body was interred at
Chester Co., South Carolina.
