Henry was the youngest of six children. He was reared and educated in the same township and at eighteen years of age he began learning the carpenter's trade with his brother George Miller with whom he remained two years. He followed with his trade for 25 years and then began farming in Lower Windsor Twp., which he continued for another four years. He then stated building panel fences.
In 1883 he came to Hellam Twp. and purchased a small farm and engaged in the manufacture of cigars a business he had previously conducted in connection with his other enterprises. He made about 300,000 cigars per year.
Henry was born at
Lower Windsor Twp., York Co., Pennsylvania, on 10 June 1823. He was the son of
Henry Miller and
Magdalena Smith. He married
Catharine Dellinger at
St. Paul's Church, York, York Co., Pennsylvania, on 27 May 1845. Henry was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census at
Lower Windsor Twp., York Co., Pennsylvania.
