John was born at
Middlesex Co., New Jersey, in 1725. He was the son of
William Moffat and
Margaret (?). Rev. John Moffat was graduation-college in 1749; John was a Presbyterian Minister. He was ordained at Little Britain, New York, after graduation from the College of New Jersey, now Princeton University John graduated form the College of New Jersey, now Princeton University, in its second class in 1749, and was ordained as a Presbyterian minister on 4 October 1750, and then was installed as minister of the Wallkill, or Goodwill Church, near Montgomery, New York. Later, in the years 1778-1781, as the master of a Latin school in Little Britain, New York, he taught DeWitt Clinton, later governor of New York. He married
Margaret Little on 10 December 1750. John died on 22 April 1788 at
Little Britain, Ulster Co., New York. His body was interred in April 1788 at
Little Britain, Ulster Co., New York.
