Samuel was born at
Ballylig, Racavin Parish, Co. Antrim, Ireland, on 18 July 1704. He was the son of
William Moffat and
Margaret (?). Samuel was a relative of immigrant
William Moffat circa 1710. Samuel Moffatt married
Ruth Burns, daughter of
John Burns and
Elizabeth (?). He married
Anna Gregg at
Woodbridge, Middlesex Co., New Jersey, on 5 June 1735. Samuel Moffatt was move in 1752 at
Orange Co., New York; The family moved to Blagg's Clove, Blooming Grove, Orange Co., New York in 1752, buying farm land from Edward Blagg. Samuel served a term as Overseer of the Poor in 1765. Samuel and his five sons signed the New York Association pledge of 1775. Samuel died on 17 May 1787 at
Blaggs Cove Twp., Orange Co., New York, at age 82. His body was interred in May 1787 at
Vail's Gate, Orange Co., New York, at Bethlehem Cemetery. He left a will on 17 June 1787 at
Orange Co., New York; His will, proved on June 17, 1787, was the first recorded in Orange Co.
