When quite a young man he was united in marriage to Margaret Jackson of the above named county and state. To this union twelve children were born, of whom ten survive the father. In 1880, the deceased, with his family, moved west. After looking over considerable country, he decided to settle in Grant Township, Harrison County, Missouri, where he spend the remainder of his life, with the exception of a short interval of less than one year. When in the prime of life, Mr. Polley was converted to Christ and United with the Methodist Episcopal church. Some years afterward, he united with the Christian church. His membership at the time of death was at the Mt. Olive Church in Grant Township. In the years of his activity, Mr. Polley was an earnest worker for the master. The Old Shiloh church in Monroe County, Ind. was built by him, and other members of the class, who hauled the logs to the sawmill, planed the lumber and did all the other work necessary to complete the building. In his later years he was not physically able to take an active part in church work, yet remained a faithful Christian to the end of his life. Mr. Polley was a man of genial disposition, generous in his nature, always willing to help a friend in time of need, some times to his own hurt. He was a loving husband and an indulgent father, and will be missed by the bereaved widow, children and his grandchildren. The children surviving him are John W. of Bloomington, Ind; Catherine Hacker of White Hall, Ind; Daniel Polley of Brimson, Mo.: H.C., W.S.,and J.W.Polley, Mary Gillespie and Nancy Pugh (Peugh) of Harrison Co., Mo; Lucy Randall of Amarillo, Texas; and A.R.
