Rebecca was born at
Upper Providence Twp., Delaware Co., Pennsylvania, on 14 November 1851. She was the daughter of
Joseph Ball Powell and
Margaret Roberts Heacock. She married
Thomas Priestman Baynes at
Clifton Heights, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania, on 29 March 1877. Rebecca was listed as
Thomas Priestman Baynes's wife on the 1900 Census at
Washington Twp., Washington Co., Indiana. Rebecca was listed as
Thomas Priestman Baynes's wife on the 1920 Census at
Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana. Rebecca died on 31 August 1935 at
Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana, at age 83. Her body was interred in September 1935 at
Union Twp., Montgomery Co., Indiana, at Oak Hill Cemetery. Burial notice from a newspaper, probably the Crawfordsville Journal Review:
Mrs. Rebecca P. Baynes, 83, died at her home, 1413 E. Grace Ave., Saturday morning. Death was due to a complication of diseases and followed an illness of two months.
The deceased was born in Pennsylvania on November 14, 1851, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Powell. She married March 29, 1877 to Thomas Baynes. She was a member of the Christian Science Church.
The survivors include the husband, four sons, Walter of Houston, Texas; Joseph of Bloomington; Beezon of Salem, and Ted of Crawfordsville; three daughters, Mrs. Helen McDonald of Seymour, Mrs. Rebecca Dellinger and Miss Margaret Baynes, both of Crawfordsville; twenty-nine grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ella McMahon of North Carolina.
The funeral services were held at the Proffitt & Sons funeral home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery. The Christian Science Services were used.".
