Annie was born at
Monticello, Drew Co., Arkansas, on 16 August 1890. She was the daughter of
John English "Jack" Shell and
Harriet "Hattie" Jane Knox. Annie Knox Shell married
Joseph Grandy Shelton, son of
Richard Preston Shelton and
Margaret "Maggie" Grandy, on 27 December 1916 at
Monticello, Drew Co., Arkansas. Annie Knox Shell died on 13 September 1971 at
Monticello, Drew Co., Arkansas, at age 81. She was New Tag Obituary from the Wed. 15 Sept. 1971 Arkansas Gazette:
"Mrs. Annie S. Shelton
MONTICELLO - Mrs. Annie S. Shelton, age 81, of Monticello died Monday. A lifelong resident of Monticello, she was graduated from Henderson Brown College, was the widow of Joe Shelton and Presbyterian. Survivors include three sons, Jack Shelton of Little Rock, Dr. Joseph Shelton, Jr. of Ashdown and Richard Shelton of Stuttgart, seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today to First Presbyterian Church here. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery by Stephenson Funeral Services."
