Joseph Grandy Shelton was born circa 1883 at
Monticello, Drew Co., Arkansas. He was the son of
Richard Preston Shelton and
Margaret "Maggie" Grandy. Joseph Grandy Shelton married
Annie Knox Shell, daughter of
John English "Jack" Shell and
Harriet "Hattie" Jane Knox, on 27 December 1916 at
Monticello, Drew Co., Arkansas. Joseph Grandy Shelton died on 6 August 1970 at
Monticello, Drew Co., Arkansas. He was buried on 8 August 1970 at
Oakland Cemetery, Monticello, Drew Co., Arkansas. He was New Tag Obituary from the Saturday 8 August 1970 Arkansas Gazette:
"Joe G. Shelton, Sr. Of Monticello Dies
MONTICELLO - Joe G. Shelton, Sr., age 87, of Monticello, a retired merchant, died Thursday.
An elder of the First Presbyterian Church, he was a Mason, a former city alderman here and a director of the Commercial Loan and Trust Company. He was a lifelong resident of Monticello and was in the mercantile and grocery business 43 years before his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Shell Shelton; three sons, Jack Shelton of Little Rock; Dr. Joe Shelton of Ashdown and Richard Shelton of Stuttgart; a sister, Mrs. Anna Riddle of California; two brothers, Hulbert and Cordell Shelton, both of Monticello, seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Stephenson Funeral Chapel here. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery."
