George Shuford was born on 5 August 1754 at Berks Co., Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Shuford Sr. and Mary Clare Conrad. George Shuford began military service on 20 June 1780 at North Carolina. He married Mary Burrell in 1786 at North Carolina; After getting married George and Mary moved into the Little River Mountains, about five miles from the confluence of the Little River and the French Broad River. They were one of the first settlers of Buncombe Co., North Carolina, although the portion in which he lived later become Transylvania Co. George Shuford died on 10 February 1825 at age 70.
