Edward Webster Spangler (M)

     Educated at the York Co., Academy. Enlisted in August, 1862, when he was sixteen years old, as a private in Company K, 130th Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 2nd Army Corps. He was engaged in the battles of Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. At Antietam a Rebel bullet shattered the stock of his rifle. His term of enlistment expired in May, 1863 and in June he was appointed Deputy United States Marshall of York Co. On March 4, 1867 he was admitted to the York Bar, at which he has been in active and continous practice; Ex-Director of the Farmer's National Bank; Attorney of the First National Bank; President of the Spangler Manufacturing Company, and of the York Daily Publishing Company, and Editor; Member of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the Revolution, and a trustee of the York County Historical Society. Author of "The Annals of the Families of Caspar, Henry, Baltzer and George Spengler, Who Settled in York County, Pennsylvania Respectively in 1729, 1732, 1732 and 1751." Much of the information on the Spangler family comes from this book. Edward was born on 23 February 1846. He was the son of Rudolph Spangler and Sarah Harbaugh. He married Mary Frances Miller on 25 September 1873.

Elias Spangler died on 5 June 1914 at Hanover Twp., York Co., Pennsylvania, at age 69.
