He served on the Committee f Revolutionary Correspondence and on the Committee of Safety, 1775, was a member of the Second Co., Third Battalion, York Co. Militia during the American Revolution. He also served as County Commissioner between 1790 and 1793. In his Will, he bequeathed "my negro wench Jude and my negro man Tony and his wife Fanny and negro girl Rachael for the term of seven years after which time they shall be set at liberty and be free." to his wife Margaret.
John was born on 29 June 1747. He was the son of
Johan Balthasar Spengler and
Mary Magdelena Ritter. He married
Margaret Bard in 1777. John died on 11 October 1796 at
Springgarden Twp., York Co., Pennsylvania, at age 49. His body was interred in October 1796 at
York, York Co., Pennsylvania, at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
