Mary LillianVarner was Type: Personality/Intrst. She lived at Morganton, Burke Co., North Carolina. She As a minister's daughter, 'Cricket' attended many schools beginning inAdvance, N.C. Dhe graduated from Matthews High School and went on toHigh Point College where she received a degree in Home Economics. Herfirst job was as supervisor of Burke County lunchrooms. (1939-42) In1943 she became a Home Economics teacher at Drexel High School. She alsotaught general science (her minor) and geography. She taught only twomonths in the fall of 1944 when she learned that she was pregnant. Shedid not work again until 1958, when she took a position as dietician atRankin Hall, N.C. School for the Deaf, Morganton. Three years later shewas apppointed Director of Food Services, a position she held for 15years. She retired in 1976 at the age of 62. She was (an unknown value). She was born on 15 April 1914 at Randolph Co., North Carolina. She married William EdwardHouck, son of Edward JeromeHouck and Bertha LeeFleming, on 9 November 1935 at Danville, Virginia. Mary Lillian Varner died on 8 September 1988 at Hickory, Catawba Co., North Carolina, at age 74.
