Mary L. Rhodes, 76, of 11 Charles St., Wayland, died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 7, 1994 at Noyes Memorial Hospital, Dansville.

Mrs. Rhodes was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Gates, NY, a daughter of John B. and Ella Mae (Nash) Allen.

She was married to Jesse F. Rhodes on March 9, 1937 in Springwater. Mr. Rhodes predeceased his wife on Aug. 7, 1993.

Mary and Jesse were longtime residents of the Wayland area and were well-known in the musical and dance functions in the area. Both were retired employees from the W.H. Gunlocke Chair Co. in Wayland.

She was a member of the Quilters Guild at the Wayland Library and a member of the Dansville Moose Lodge.

She is survived by two daughters, Irene Harrington and Mary Ellen (Fred) Butterfield, all of Wayland; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one nephew.

In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by a son, James Murray Woodruff in 1972.

Friends called Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home, 100 E. Naples St., Wayland, where funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Calvin Sheasley officiating. Burial will be in Erwin Cemetery, Springwater.
