John Robert PATTILLO
John Robert Pattillo was born in 1790 in Charlotte County, Virginia. He was the son of David and Sarah Pattillo and grandson of George Alexander Pattillo and Martha Varner.
John served in the war of 1812, as a private in the company commanded by Captain Henry Lane in the regiment of Georgia militia commanded by Col. Jones. He enlisted in Morgan County, Georgia on or about the 1st day of November 1814 for a term of six months. He continued in active service for five and a half months and was honorably discharged at Fort Hawkins, Georgia on or about April 28, 1815. This information is taken from a document requesting unclaimed bounty land by John's wife Emily. John Robert married Mildred "Emily" Payne on 6 January 1816 in Greene County, Georgia.
John R. Pattillo founded the Red Ridge Methodist Church in Tallapoosa County. He is said to have come to Alabama with a desire to convert Indians to Christianity. When he arrived in the 1830's the Indians had been driven out.
John R. Pattillo is found in the 1850 Alabama Mortality Schedule, which was a list of persons who died during the year ending June 30, 1850. The schedule showed that he died in August 1849 at the age of 56. Cause of death was listed as pneumonia and he had been sick for two months.
John Robert died on August 1849 and is buried in the Red Ridge Cemetery in Tallapoosa County. Emily was born about 1797 in Georgia. Emily was enumerated in 1850 Tallapoosa County and had three children living with her. In 1860, she is living alone. She died in 1864 as her estate sale was on 17 December 1864.
