The above images BTH 001 to BTH 005 are displayed with the kind permission of Mrs. Jean Marvin (nee Moore), the widow of Stan Marvin. Jean was born and grew-up in Thurmaston. Stan Marvin, who had served in the Royal Navy
during the war, joined the Research and Development department
of the BTH in 1946, to work on the development of Mercury vapour lamps.

Jean Moore had been employed at the BTH, Melton Road, factory during the war years. She was employed on the assembling of magnetos, which were a vital component of the ignition equipment of aero-engines. The BTH produced the magneto that was used exclusively on the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine fitted in the Hawker Hurricane fighter. The magnetos were also fitted to Rolls-Royce and Bristol-Hercules engines of Wellington, Halifax, Stirling and Lancaster bombers. Later in the war BTH magnetos were also used with Rolls-Royce
Griffon engines of Supermarine Spitfires, as well as the
Napier-Sabre engines of Hawker Typhoons.
