Jean Moore had been employed at the BTH, Melton Road, factory during
the war years. She was employed on the assembling of magnetos, which
were a vital component of the ignition equipment of aero-engines. The
BTH produced the magneto that was used exclusively on the Rolls-Royce
Merlin engine fitted in the Hawker Hurricane fighter. The magnetos were
also fitted to Rolls-Royce and Bristol-Hercules engines of Wellington,
Halifax, Stirling and Lancaster bombers. Later in the war BTH magnetos
were also used with Rolls-Royce
Griffon engines of Supermarine Spitfires, as well as the Napier-Sabre engines
of Hawker Typhoons.
