EXTRACTS FROM THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
OF JAMES FIELDEN OF HADES
James Fielden of Hades 1628. Dated 18th June
James Fielden of Hades in the Parish of Rochdale and County of Lancaster, yeoman …. first he commends his soul into the hands of Almighty God and his body to the earth, trusting to be saved by the merits of Jesus Christ his alone Saviour and Redeemer.
He says that he has already conveyed his lands, tenements and hereditaments to his sons (not named), for their advancement and preferment, and has consented to the exchange of certain lands, and he now ratifies such conveyances and exchange.
He mentions his wife, but not her name; his two daughters, viz, Jane, wife of William Byron the younger and Mary, wife of Robert Newall the younger; and William Fielden, his son and heir apparent.
