This is the last will and testament of me James Haigh of Gawksholme in the Parish of Rochdale in this the County Palatine of Lancaster, Innkeeper.

Whereby in the first place I do order and direct that all my just debts, funeral expenses, with the charges attending the probate of this my will, together with my hereinafter executor and executrix's reasonable charges, wages and expenses in and about the execution hereof shall be all paid and satisfied out of my whole substance or estate.

And then I give and bequeath unto my brother WILLIAM HAIGH the sum of fifty pounds, and to my brother EDMUND or EDWARD HAIGH I give the like sum of fifty pounds. I also give and bequeath unto my sister MARY wife of JAMES FARRER of Knowlwood Bottom the sum of fifty pounds, and to my sister SUSANNAH late wife of JOHN FIELDEN I give the like sum of fifty pounds. I also give unto BETTY my niece, wife of WILLIAM CROSSLEY the sum of ten pounds, and to JOHN CROSSLEY (my first wife's brother) I give the like sum of ten pounds. And I do give them the same accordingly for their own separate use and uses.

And as to the time of payment of all the said legacies before mentioned, I will the same to be paid at the end of twelve months next after my decease. The child or children of such of them as may then be dead (if any such there be) always taking and claiming his or her or their father or mother's share thereof.

All the rest, residue and remainder of my household furniture, brewing stock, money, goods, cattle, chattels, personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever the same is I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto GRACE my now wife absolutely for her own use.

And lastly, hereby revoking all former and other will and wills I heretofore made I do publish and declare this to be my last will and testament and I do nominate, constitute and appoint her my said wife and her oldest son, JOHN SUTCLIFFE, joint executor and executrix. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four.

The 21st. day of January 1808. JOHN SUTCLIFFE one of the executors in this will named was sworn in common form, power being reserved to GRACE HAIGH the other executor therein also named to take upon her the execution of the said will when she shall lawfully request the same. He further made oath that the personal estate and effects of the testator within the Diocese of Chester were under the value of One Thousand five hundred pounds.

 

The testator died the 23rd. day of July 1807.
