BACK TO INDEX OF WILLS
This
is the last will and testament of me James Walton of Knowlwood in
Walsden in the Parish of Rochdale and County of Lancaster, cotton
weaver, as follows.
First
I will that all my just debts, funeral expenses and incidental expense
attending the execution and probate of this my last will be all
paid and duly discharged by my executors out of my personal estate.
And
I give and bequeath unto Ann my wife all those things that were
hers before our marriage, and the bed on which we usually lie, and
thirty pounds in money.
Also
I give and bequeath my loom in which I used to weave unto my daughter
Ann.
And
I will that as soon after my death as may be convenient will admit
all my furniture be valued and that all my children be allowed to
take such part thereof as may suit them best at the best price that
any of them will give for the same, in part of their share, and
furthermore I will that the residue of my furniture and other things
that may remain after my children have taken up what each one chooses,
shall be converted into money and divided equally amongst all my
children, namely; my daughter Susan the wife of John Butterworth,
Sally the wife of John Butterworth, Mary the wife of Ely Crossley,
my sons John, James and William.
And
whereas Ann my wife is now pregnant, in case she bring forth a living
child, that child shall have an equal share with the others.
And
I will that all my property (except as before mentioned) be converted
into money within the space of twelve months next after my decease
and divided into shares as herein before mentioned and paid to such
of my children respectively as have attained to twenty one years
of age, and the shares of those who have not attained that age shall
be vested in the hands of Ann my wife for their use until they shall
attain to twenty one years of age respectively, and I give and bequeath
the same accordingly.
And
I nominate and constitute my brother William Walton of Hollingworth
in Walsden aforesaid, farmer, and James Pilling of Horsewood in
the Parish of Halifax and County of York to be joint executors of
this my last will. In witness whereof I do hereto put my hand and
seal this twelfth day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and eighteen.
