Jumps Farm and adjacent mill

There was undoubtedly a water mill on this site at Jumps Farm. The water wheel was still in existence in the 1970's. It was a metal wheel of the type used in the early cotton spinning mills. However, there is no evidence of any textile manufactory at Jumps. The farm was previously known as Kitson Royd and was standing in 1725 and mentioned in the will of Joshua Fielden (1650-1725), although probably re-built since that time:

I, Joshua Fielden of Kitson Royd in Shore, Stansfield, in county of York, yeoman, aged of body, etc., do make this my last will etc. ... As to my lands and tenement, knowing that for diverse causes I have before the writing of this, disposed of and granted to Abraham Fielden, my son, all that messuage at Shore called Kitson Royd where I now live ...

Lower down is Jumps which probably derives its name from the fact that the clough here jumps in various small waterfalls, but it was formerly known as Kitson Royd.
