THE HIGGINS FAMILY OF TODMORDEN ABOUT 1915/16

Michael Higgins with his wife Elizabeth Rowe and all their children; daughters Ethel and Edith, and sons Christopher (in uniform), Albert, Ernest, Edward and George.

Michael was born in 1875 in Dundalk, Louth, Ireland. He came to Todmorden in the early 1890's as a single immigrant, leaving behind all his family whom he never saw again. He worked as a stoker at a fustian dye works, marrying Elizabeth Rowe in 1896 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Todmorden. Somehow they ended up as Baptists and are buried at Shore Baptist Chapel. Elizabeth was born in 1876 at Eastwood in Stansfield. There is more about sons George and Albert on the WAR HEROS page.
