Will of Thomas Haigh, made January 23rd 1603/4

 

A will pronounced in words by Thomas Haigh of Bins in the paryshe of Rachedall, yeoman, to this effect following:

 

My will is that my eldest sonne Abraham Haghe shall have apportion as will precure a new lease from the Rt. Wor. Sir John Byrom, Knight, wherein the sayd Abraham Haghe may be joined with a . (torn document) . Turnough, Widddowe, and Jane Haghe, mother of the said Abraham.

 

Further, my will is that the remainder of my goods be devyded into three parts;

 

To Jane my wyffe one third part.

Concerning the second part itt is my will that my second sonne James Haghe shall have £6-13-4 and the rest of that part I give to Marie Haghe my daughter.

 

Concerning the last part, my will is that my eldest son Abraham shall have 20 ewes. I give to John Smethurst my servant 2 ewes and one lamb. The remainder of myne owne part I commit to the custodie of Jane my wyffe, to be bestowed wholely on my daughter Marie Haghe if she please her mother in her marriage. If she does not please the mynd of her mother as aforesaid then my will is that it be bestowed upon my two sonnes Abraham and James.

 

Concerning my copihold lande being in the paryshe of Hootherffield co. York called Playnes, my will is that Jane my wyffe shall have one third parte during her lyffe and the other two partes I give to my younger son James.

 

And the other third part after the decease of Jane my wyffe, I give it also to James Haghe aforesaid.

 

The sole executrix is Jane my wyffe

Inventory by James Chadwick of Butterworth, James Brierly and James Cheetham, 12th July 1604. Sum total is estimated - eight score and fourteen pounds and twenty pences.

 

The testator died and was buried at Rochdale St. Chad's on 29th January 1603/4
