1901 Census for Towcester

 

A  All that part of the parish of Towcester which lies on the north east side of the West Chester Turnpike Road, commencing at Spittal Bridge and from thence down to Church Lane including the house occupied by Mr Dawson. Including the Church Yard Cottages, the Brickyard house, Savages Farm Lodge, the two cottages on the Tiffield Road, the hamlet of Caldicote, Elm Lodge, and the cottages on the south west side on the said Turnpike, the cottages on the Greens Norton Road, the Railway station, and the Hesketh Arms Hotel.

 

 

       (includes the east side of the Market Square, and the whole of that side of the High Street to the north plus Moat Lane. Hesketh Arms Hotel pictured.)

 

 

B   All that part of the parish of Towcester, which lies on the north east side of the West Chester Turnpike Road, from and including Sturgiss House (Kiln Yard) to Betsys Lane. Including 2 houses at Heathencote occupied by William Dickens and George Henry Dickens, Park View, the Red House, the Folly, Mount Pleasant, Jubilee Row, Lake Lane, Woodbine Cottages, old Brickyard and Stops (late Highams) Cottages, and the Hamlet of Woodburcote, including Burcote Wood Farm and cottages.

C   All that part of the parish of Towcester which lies on the south west side of the West Chester Turnpike Road. From Little London to Corrals House at the corner of Sawpit Lane, both inclusive, with Puddle Dock and the Plank Houses, Islington, Bransons Lane, Barbers Lane, Sheppards Lane and Sargeants Yard and the High Street from Mrs Corralls House to the Factory

(includes all the yards behind the West side of the south end of the High Street, as well as the west side of the High Street and the Alms Houses. The Factory, on the corner opposite the White Bear, is pictured following a fire.)

 

 

D   All that part of the parish of Towcester which lied on the south west side of the West Chester Turnpike Road. From the house and shop lately occupied by George Smith Jeweller at the corner of Sawpit Lane up High Street and Park Street to the Workhouse, comprising part of High Street, the whole of Woodwards Yard, Meeting Yard, Browns Yard, part of South East side of Park Street and the whole of Sawpit Lane with South Place together with the new cottages lately belonging to the Earl of Pomfret, also Queen Terrace, Albert Row and Back Lane (Ridgeways Cottages) and Wickham Terrace

E   All that part of the parish of Towcester which lied on the south west side of the West Chester Turnpike Road. The Bull Inn to and including the cemetery cottage all being on the south east side of Brackley Road, Ridgeway Cottage and all other houses on the north west side of the Brackley Road, the whole of Kings Lane, the whole of the north west side of Park Street, the remaining part of the High Street, from Wilkins Corner to and including Heaths Cottages, Abbotts Yard, Tranters Row, and Police Station, Also the Handleys, Kingsmoor, Costwell and Franklins Farm Houses and cottages.
