FIRST TOWN MEETING
LEE, NEW YORK
March 3, 1812

At the first Town meeting held at the School house near Samuel Darlings in the Town of Lee on the third day in March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve persuant to an act of the Legislature passed at their last session the following votes were passed.
  • 1. That James Young Jun. serve as Supervisor the ensuing year.
  • 2. That West Waterman serve as Clerk.
  • 3. That Jesse Dutton, Earl Fillmore and Joseph White serve as Assesors.
  • 4. That Samuel Hall serves as Collector.
  • 5. That John Hall and Dan Taft serve as Overseers of the Poor.
  • 6. That Jotham Worden, Dan Taft and Thomas E. Lawrence serve as Commisioners of highways.
  • 7. That there be three Constables chosen.
  • 8. That George Hawkins, Samuel Hall and Labeliet Wentworth serve as Constables.
  • 9. That there be three fence viewers chosen.
  • 10. That Dan Taft, Adonijah Barnard and Asahel Castle serve as fence viewers.
  • 11. That Dan Taft and Alpheus Whelock serves as Pound master.
  • 12. That each highway district have the priviledge of nominating their own pathmasters.

Voted at the same meeting that the following persons serve as overseers of highways in their serveral districts.

  • Dist. No. 9 Nathan Yerman
  • Dist. No. 10 Joshua Bushnell
  • Dist. No. 11 John Hall
  • Dist. No. 12 Nethaniel Kenyon Jun.
  • Dist. No. 13 Abijah Hall
  • Dist. No. 14 Asahel Castle
  • Dist. No. 15 David Warner
  • Dist. No. 16 Spencer Pratt
  • Dist. No 17. Roswell Wilson
  • Dist. No. 18 David Byam
  • Dist. No. 19 Dan Taft
  • Dist. No. 20 Peter Wilton
  • Dist. No. 21 Isaac Beckley
  • Dist. No. 22 Uriah Wentworth

Voted likewise that said horses should not be permitted to run at large under penalty of five dollars.

Also that rams running at large between the first of September and tenth of November shall be forfited.

Also that swine shall not be permitted to run at large unless well yoked.

Voted also to give a bounty of ten dollars on wolves and panthers.

Voted also that cattle, horses and hogs be prohibited running at large from the first of December to the first of April and in penalty of 25 cents together with cost etc.

Voted also that Boars running at large from the first of April to the first of December shall be forfited.

Voted by the authority aforesaid to raise fifty dollars for the support of the poor the ensuing year.

Voted lastly that the next town meeting be held at the School house near Samuel Darlings.
