Middlesex
County
was created on 7 March
1683 and was formed as an original county in the Province of East
Jersey. East and West Windsor Townships, in old Middlesex County, became part
of present-day Mercer County in 1838. The County was named for the English
county of Middlesex. The County Seat is New Brunswick. Somerset County set off, 1688; part
of Mercer
County formed from Middlesex, 1838. The following
counties lie adjacent to Middlesex: Union
County, New Jersey –
north; Monmouth
County, New Jersey –
southeast; Mercer
County, New Jersey –
southwest; Somerset
County, New Jersey –
northwest; Richmond County, New
York – northeast. |
