Armstrong Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania

This township was formed in 1785

Fort Peelor

Le Tort's Town - located in Armstrong Township near the junction of Plum Creek and Crooked Creek near the present town of Shelocta.  Here, because it was the point where the Frankstown Path forked to Kittanning and Chartier's Old Town, the Indian trader, James Le Tort, had a trading house.  Le Tort was licensed to trade by the provincial government of PA, in 1713.  He was one of the first whites to enter the wilderness west of the Alleghenies.  He went as far west as the Great Miami River on what is now Ohio, and traded with the Indians at all the villages along the way.
