On-the-job Photos
Wadhams, NY 1938
My uncle identified these photos as having been taken on one of my grandfather's jobs in Wadhams, NY in 1938. They appear to involve the construction of a bridge over a creek. I tried to put these in some sort of chronological order, but I'm just guessing as I have no idea what order they are supposed to go in.
- A crane in the creek bed ready to begin work on the bridge. The words "Bucyrus Erie Co." are clearly visible on the side of the crane - can't quite make out what's on the back - may partially read "INGRAHAM Inc." The light-colored building on the right has a sign reading "Arrowhead Store" on it.
- A crane working on one end of the future bridge. I had to rotate the left one a bit - couldn't stand looking at the world all tilted like that - crane looked like it might slide off. ;-)
- Hoisting part of the bridge into place with a crane.
- The main part of the bridge has been built and the crane is working on it. The "Arrowhead Store" is visible again near the center of this photo.
- Work being done on one end of the bridge. From what little I can see of it, this may be a crane with a clamshell attachment.
- A crane at one end of the new bridge with a farm in the background.
- A crane with a dragline attachment apparently dredging the creek bed. This photo is very strongly backlit and I can't bring out much detail on the crane.
- A steam shovel in the creek bed near the new bridge.
