Prideaux Place from the South East from Edmond’s drawing
1732
Moving on to the drawing of Padstow from the South East, which
is similar to the gouache, the rear windows of the South Elevation are
horizontal and the front windows are vertical - work has been taking place -
Edmond's other drawing of the South elevation shows he intended to form more
vertical windows. There is a wall to the rear of the house from the South
elevation, but it is partly obscured by the pyramidally roofed garden building
which still exists. There is also the Gatehouse and a wall dividing the Terrace
from the East front. The perspective of Prideaux Place is set out in oblique
projection. There are no figures in the landscape, but the windmill is in
evidence. Edmond's Cash Book shows that there were major works at Prideaux in
1732/3, which included alterations to the Reading Room and the construction of
the Cellars and the Bakehouse.
