1733

Prideaux Place from the South East from Edmond’s gouache 1733

The gouache is much the same as the drawing save that the house is better drawn and the pyramidally roofed building has disappeared from the garden. It has been suggested that Edmond did the 1732 drawing as a guide for another artist, but when considering Edmond Prideaux’s painting of The Great House at Stowe, it is clear to me that Edmond was the  artist of this 1733 painting. As to Edmond's talents and skill in presenting figures, animals and trees, an inspection of his drawing of Forde Abbey from the North and his drawing of Euston Front next the Garden on the South should suffice as examples. However, note that the South elevation now has all vertical windows, still with a central door. There is still the castellated wall separating the Terrace from the East front, with a gate, as on Edmond's drawing of the South front.

There is a high wall at the rear of the South front, with a doorway shown.
