In 1956 Shipping company Sverre A. Farstad & Co. was
formed by Sverre A. Farstad
together with ship-owners Ole Schrøder and Sverre Farstad
junior.
In 1962 they took over A/S Truma and renamed A/S Vigra;
1965 they were renamed Schrøder & Farstad of Ålesund.

26/27th September 1975: Under Captain Jorge
Travaglini from Guayacán, Chile to San Nicolás, Argentina, sailing at reduced
speed due to poor visibility, she struck a reef off the Coast of Canal Icy and
foundered in Fuigian Channel, off the southern tip of S America with iron ore.
The crew of 29 were recued by the Chilean Naval ship VALDIVIA and were
disembarked at Punta Arenas.

3rd October 1978, 0420 hours Inbound together,
BURMAH SPAR collided with the TEXACO IOWA
on the Mississippi River, Pilottown, Louisiana. The total damage to the vessels
was estimated at £250,000.
No-one was injured. Collision was determined to be due to
bar-pilot errors and the failure of the pilots
to establish bridge-to-bridge radio-telephone
communications before the collision.
