In 1726 there is recorded a dispute between Edmond Prideaux and a Richard Broad;

it is not clear as to whether or not this is the Richard Broad who later built the Temple and Obelisk for Edmond Prideaux, but it is an intriguing possibility.

Manor of Padstow ( of which the plaintiff Edmond Prideaux is Lord ), and the port and harbour of Padstow. Metes and bounds, Privileges, Right and title to bushellage and keyage, &c.

There is a room in the house which is still known as the Long Acre Room,

the view from this room, looked directly along the fields bordered by two long rows of trees, and down on to the River Camel. The fields were partly divided into formal walled gardens and plots, as well as the central green “long acre”.

The fields were later formed into what is presently known as the Deer Park.

Edmond Prideaux exchanged correspondence ( Sep – Oct 1737 ) with the Duke of Newcastle (Thomas Pelham Holles, 1693-1768, Duke of Newcastle from 1715, Secretary of State from 1724, Premier from 1754 ) concerning the threatened uprising of the Tinners; upon gaining the necessary troops to protect the town, Edmond Prideaux writes that having only fourteen public houses to accommodate the 160 soldiers sent there against the Tinners, they were forced to send away three companies. The Duke of Newcastle later writes that he has directed Richard Arnold, Deputy Secretary at War, to remove the troops from Cornwall.
