In
1726 there is recorded a dispute between Edmond Prideaux and a Richard Broad;
it
is not clear as to whether or not this is the Richard Broad who later built the
Temple and Obelisk for Edmond Prideaux, but it is an intriguing possibility.

Edmond Prideaux exchanged correspondence ( Sep Oct 1737 ) with the
Duke of Newcastle (Thomas Pelham Holles, 1693-1768, Duke of Newcastle from
1715, Secretary of State from 1724, Premier from 1754 ) concerning the
threatened uprising of the Tinners; upon gaining the necessary troops to
protect the town, Edmond Prideaux writes that having only fourteen public
houses to accommodate the 160 soldiers sent there against the Tinners, they
were forced to send away three companies. The Duke of Newcastle later writes
that he has directed Richard Arnold, Deputy Secretary at War, to remove the
troops from Cornwall.
