The Lifeboat

Was built in 1884
For the RN LBI
The original Lifeboat Station was at Wherrytown;
in 1908 The Lifeboat
was moved - stationed at Newlyn.
The fact that this building remains in such a good
condition is a testament
to the care shown to some buildings in the Town.
The Dora was also introduced in 1884
[restored from a photograph in my Grandfather’s
collection]
She was built by Woolfe of Shadwell
Donated by H M Harvey of Hexworthy
She was 34 ft x 10 ft; Crew of 13, 10 oars
She saved all 10 vessels and 57 lives, until she was
replaced in 1895
