The Lifeboat House

Such Geometry

Such mass

With the high overseeing window

Was built in 1884

For the RN LBI

The original Lifeboat Station was at Wherrytown;

 in 1908 The Lifeboat was moved - stationed at Newlyn.

The fact that this building remains in such a good condition is a testament

to the care shown to some buildings in the Town.

The Dora was also introduced in 1884

[restored from a photograph in my Grandfather’s collection]

She was built by Woolfe of Shadwell

Donated by H M Harvey of Hexworthy

She was 34 ft x 10 ft; Crew of 13, 10 oars

She saved all 10 vessels and 57 lives, until she was replaced in 1895
