In 1950, three steamships were purchased, and named

SUGAR PRODUCER, SUGAR TRANSPORTER and SUGAR REFINER.

Built 1945 St John's N.B. as OAKMOUNT PARK;  Registered at Montreal.
3103 grt; 315.5 ft x 46.5 ft;
1945 Oakmount Park built as a WW2 - 4,700 ton dwt.

“Scandinavian” standard vessel for the Canadian Government, (Mgrs: Park Steamship Co. Ltd.) 

Builder: St John DD & SB Co Ltd, St John, New Brunswick

Engine: Canadian Iron Foundries Ltd, Three Rivers, Quebec.

Triple expansion; two single ended boilers; coal furnaces; 10 knots.

1947 Sold to Atlantic Shipping Agencies Ltd; renamed OAKMOUNT. 

1948 Sold to Cia Maritima Panamena S.A. Panama; renamed MAKENA II. Registered Panama.

1950 Sold to Sugar Line Ltd and renamed Sugar Producer. Registered London.

1950  Renamed SUGAR PRODUCER.

1956 Sold to Shamrock Shipping Co Ltd (Mgrs: C S Brown); renamed CURRAN. Registered London.

1956 Sold to Indonesian Fortune Lloyd, Jakarta; Renamed OCEAN FORTUNE

Callsign: PKTV.  Registered Jakarta.

1968  Name changed by Indonesian Fortune Lloyd to ONBAK FADJAR.

1979 Sold to Indonesian South East Asia Steamship Co. Jakarta, name unchanged.

1984/5 Still in Lloyds Register

1986/7 No longer in Lloyds Register.

1945 [MOWT] managed by H. Hogarth & Sons Ltd. Ardrossan

1946  [MOWT] Managed by Rodney SS Co. London

1950  Sold to Tate & Lyle Ltd; renamed SUGAR TRANSPORTER.

1950  SUGAR TRANSPORTER Silvertown Services Ltd. London [Dalgleish Ltd. Newcastle]
1951  Managed by Kentships Ltd.[Dalgleish Ltd. Newcastle, Australia]

1951  Owners given as Silvertown Services Ltd.  London

1957 sold to James Patterson & Co. Melbourne and renamed PATTAWILYA.

1961 her owners became McIlwraith McEacharn.

1962 sold to John Manners & Co. Registered Hong Kong.

1962 Renamed CLOVELLY  Cronulla Shipping Co, Hong Kong.
1963 Owners San Jeronimo SS Co, Panama.

6th January 1967 Damaged in heavy weather, on voyage Yokohama to Surabaya.

9th January Towed in to Sasebo.
1967 Scrapped Uchiumi, Shodo Island.

Launched 10th May 1945

12th September 1965 entered Las Palmas with boiler trouble.
October 1965 Towed into Tarragona and abandoned by owners.

1967   Scrapped Cartagena (September).


Sugar Transporter and Sugar Reginer were both Empire Ships of the “Empire Malta” Class.

Also known as “Scandinavian-type ships”.  Machinery aft, triple expanion; 11 knots. 82 ft poop,

raised quarter deck of 197 ft, foc’sle 29 ft. 4,310 dwt. 250,700 ton capacity (grain). These were

built as general purpose vessels, included was a crane of 80 ton capacity, the ships were capable

of carrying coal or oil, or heavy vehicles such as military tanks or locomotives.

Water ballast capacity 1,327 tons.  There was also 100 tons of permanent ballast midships.

Also fitted with a 50 ton crane, and 4 x 3 ton derricks and a further 4 x 3 ton derricks on the mainmast.
