bulletWant to keep up with what is going on with TMG but can't handle the 30-50 posts per day from the national TMG List? Join the TMGTUG mail list.

bulletHave a question about TMG and don't want to wait for the next UG meeting? Here are three easy steps to get your questions answered quickly:
  1. Search (or browse) the TMG-L Archives. All posts to the TMG Mailing List since 22 July 1999 are residing on the Archives and they seem to be updated simultaneously with the actual List. At the time of this writing (23 January 2001 @ 4:37 p.m.) the most recent archive is date-time stamped 23 Jan 2001 18:36:51 EST.
  2. If you don't find the answer in the Archives, subscribe to TMG-L and post the question yourself. You can unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time by following the instructions on the TMG Mailing List webpage. There are no limits to how often or how many times you subscribe and unsubscribe from the List.
  3. Post your question to the Tucson TMGTUG mail list. Maybe someone from our group can answer the question.
bulletA nice new web site has been developed to consolidate all of the tools, publications, web sites, Users Groups, and other resources for users of The Master Genealogist and Family Tree SuperTools. It is : http://www.whollygenes.com/forums/.

bulletVisit Lee Hoffman's TMG Tips Page for valuable tutorials and tips to take advantage of some of the awesome power of TMG. He also provides source citation patterns in his TMG Proprietary Information page.

bulletIf Lee's tips aren't enough for you, take a look at Terry's TMG Tips Page. Terry Reigel has customized sources, alternate languages and roles to name just a few.

bulletDiane Begeman developed a wonderful process for entering census data and uploaded detailed instructions on Diana's TMG Example Page. She makes use of the witness feature in TMG to link all members in the household into one census entry and can run reports that show everyone in a particular census. The instructions are for TMG 4.x, but can be adapted very nicely to TMG 5.

bulletAllen Mellen provides some examples on using filters as well as housing downloadable census forms.

bulletJohn Cardinal developed some very useful after-market tools for exclusive use with TMG. John classifies most of his applications "DonorWare." They are free to download and use. He requests that you make a donation in his name to the PMC/Jimmy Fund of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute if you feel the utilities "saved you time and aggravation." John provides a link on his website with more information about the PMC/Jimmy Fund.

His TMG Utility allows you to make global modifications to the dataset, useful for cleaning up imported data or for correcting mistakes you may have made. For example, if you created a custom tag in the Other event type and later decided you wanted it to be in the Death event type, this utility will fix that for you. Or, if you were inconsistent in assigning the husband as P1 in the marriage tags, this utility will do that for you and more. TMG Utility is available only for both 4.x and 5.x.

Another fun tool by John Cardinal is his On This Day (OTD) application which "displays a list of anniversaries of BMDB events for the current day, week, or month. Use it to remind yourself or members of your family of important dates in your family history." This program is available for both TMG 4.x and TMG 5.

The third companion program developed by John for use with TMG is Second Site. Second Site creates web pages from a genealogy database. It generates either narrative or grid style person pages, a master index, a surname index, and source pages. Second Site can be purchased from the Wholly Genes web store.
