These photos came from my grandmother's photo album.  Her maiden name, Knapp and her married name, Watterson. 


 
March 2000

I have just found the identity of the soldier here. A relative saw the picture in the NZ Genealogist Magazine of last year and had the same photo. Fortunately it had the name written on the back. It said - 
"Sgt Major R.A, Wakelin on the occasion of the visit by the Duke of Edinburgh at Queens Wharf, Wellington, April 1868." He married my great-aunt, Emily NOAKES. 

I have now identified this lady as being
Una Agnes (Newton) Wakelin, the daughter-in-law of Richard Wakelin, above.  You can see them both in the Wakelin Family picture above.
