T-15427 WENN, Harold Marp (sp?) 12 14.9.10 1921 Barnardo 1921-28 J Wardell, Otterville, Oxford Co. "Excellent character-- no complaints" 1928 wages $250 per yr. No hint re the use of 2 names!!!!!!!
From the Juvenile Inspection Reports, National Archives of Canada T-15421 DAWSON, Lucy 14 1920 Barnardo Aug 1924 Home state. "It was the desire of Lucy to return to her mother and it was found that the mother also wished to have the girl and that the conditions were suitable, we were instructed to send Lucy back. We have since heard from the girl expressing satisfaction with the arrangement." Returned to England Jul 1924.
Letter of December 24, 1910 to G. Bogue Smart, Esq. Dept. of Interior, Ottawa regarding children children who had died or had been returned that came from the Poor Law Schools: PATTERSON, William age 18, Toxteth Union, 1902. Died November 1, 1910. Was living with Mr. T. M. Smith, North Sutton, Quebec. Returned to England November 18, 1910. Herbert COX, age 14, Bristol Union, 1905. Was living at The Roy's Home, Ottawa. Returned to England September 23, 1910. Alice MILLENDER, age 16. Bristol Union, 1907. Was living with Rev. George Wood, Knowlton, Quebec. 1918 Wages: JONES, Sarah Stepney Union, $48 & schooling; NYE, William Edward Hasting Union, $10 for ?; WHITE, James Stockport, $20. In March 1918 James White was being paid at the rate of $20/month. He made a change last October and was then being paid $224 for a year. This information was supplied by A. Drummond.
T-15426 VENTRIS, John Peyton age 2 SS Melita 1924, unaccompanied July 14/25 (legal adoption) went to Mrs B....... (I am leaving out the name of the adopting family and the address), in British Columbia. The juv. insp. report says: "Legally adopted and known as "Richard P. B............."-- Mr and Mrs B........ are very fond of John and do not wish him to ever know that he is only an adopted child. The family are well spoken of by the neighbours." It is possible that the initial "P" retained part of this child's birth-name.
