CASE OF DROWNINGt Yesterday afternoon, about 5 oclock, a young man, about 16 years of age, named Milton Partridge (only son of Capt. Partridge of this village) was drowned in the Chemung by jumping over Hills Dam, situated above the upper bridge. It seems that he, with several others had gone up above there to bathe, and proposed to his comrades to jump which caused his death. immediately after he had jumped over the sheet of water, he cried out to those on shore, that “all was right” — but in a few minutes they missed sight of him, the counter current having carried him under the dam About an hour and a half elapsed before his body was recovered, although diligent exertions were made by a large number of out citizen to find it. On removing some brush woö4,which had lodged near the dam, the body floated down stream several rods, and was caught. It was then 37. taken to the residence of Capt. Partridge, on Lake Street. Young Partridge was a lad of rare promise ,and his untimely death is sincerely deplored by all our citizens.
