subscribed  on the roll of Pennsylvania at the rate of 8 dollars per month, to commence on the 15 of May [looks like] 1819.

I William Barber for the notary of court of Common Pleas in and for said county do hereby certify that George Barnitz the written subscriber is and was at the time of taking the written deposition one of our judges of the court of common pleas in and duly appointed and commissioned as discharged. In testimony is where of I have account set my hand and the seal of the said courts at York this 17th day of May Anno Domini 1819

Eastern District of Pennsylvania York county.
On the 15th day of may 1819 before me the subscriber one the judges of the court of commons pleas in and for the said county personally appeared MATHIAS Crout aged 60 years, resident in Hanover- in the said district, who being by me first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the provisions made by the late act of Congress, entitled "An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war." that he the said Matthias Crout enlisted for the term of during the war in the summer of 1775 in York in the sate of Pennsylvania in Th. company commanded by Captain Stout of the REgiment commanded by colonel Adam Hubley in the of the state of pennsylvania 10th  regiment on the Continental Establishment; that he continued to serve in Th. said corps or in the service of the United States until the  close of the war, when he was discharged from service  in Philadelphia state of Pennsylvania  that he was in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Peoli, Monmouth, and the green Springs in Virginia where he was wounded and that he is reduced circumstances and stands in need of the assistance of his county for support and that he has no other evident now in his poser of his said service.  Sown to and declared before me the day and year aforesaid.  Geo Barnitz.                 LS Matthias Crout

I George Barnitz judge and c. as aforesaid do certify the it appears to my satisfaction that Matthias Crout was in the Revolutionary war, as stated in the preceding declaration, against the common enemy for the term of nine months at one time on the continental establishment ; and I now transmit the proceedings and testimony taken and had before me to the secretary for the department  of war pursuant to the directions of the aforementioned act of Congress. I am also satisfied that he needs the assistance of his country for support. York, may 15th  1819. George Barnitz[LS]

I am anxious to get a copy of the Revolutionary war service of Mathias Crout whose pension certificate are numbered as follows-68107[than written above the original writing, These ctf. nos. are from John Pierces Reg, I think]
73994, 14308, 74894, 75553. I should  like to know where he served and from what place he came . Will you kindly give me information regarding any other Crouts or Krouts who were pensioned.

Dated march 17, 1931
Dear madam, You made advised that it appears from the papers in the REvolutionary war pension claim S40863 that Matthias  Crout enlisted in York, Pennsylvania in the summer of 1775 and served as a private in captain Stouts's company, Colonels Adam Hubley's and Humton's Pennsylvania Regiments until the close of the war during  this enlistment he was in the battles of Brandywine, Peoli, Germantown, Momouth and Green Springs, virginia where he was wounded, nature of said wound not stated.
HE was allowed pension on his application Mentioned may 15, 1819, while a resident of Hanover York county, Pa. ages sixty years.  In 1820 soldier stated that he has two children living with him, a daughter, aged twenty years and a son aged fourteen years, their names not given. there is no reference to his wife. In order to identify the record of any other soldiers named Crouts or Krouts who where pensioned for services during the Revolutionary war, the full name is essential and as much as possible of the following data in regard to each; Approximate dates of birth and death; places of residence at enlistment and after service and given name of widow. Pennsylvania York County Pa.  On this 31st day o f July 1820 personally appeared in open court Mathias Crout aged 56 years resident in said  county who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his solomon oath declared that he served in the Revolutionary war as follows; viz. In the 10th Regt. Pennsylvania line by by Col. Hampton in the company commanded by Capt. Stout from the year 1776 until the close of the war that the date his original application for a pension is May 15, 1819. and the number of his pension certificate is 12.203.
[Statement as follows] viz; one table value $0-50-2 sheets-$1.00
3 chairs $1.00, One spinning wheel $1.00, one reel?, $.50 one axe $1.00, and a few particles of kitchen furniture. Value about $12.00 . My occupation is that of a laborer. I am not able to perform much labor. I have two children now living with me, a son 14 years and a daughter twenty years of age. I have no friends or relation who can in a situating to give me any assistance.
Sworn and declared on the 31st day of July 1820. before Geo.Barritz.
