Michael Cronts

An answer was sent to Mrs. Joseph T Hanna, of Rt. 2, Ft. Wayne Ind. she requesting information on a Rev, soldier that lived in Ind. The info sent back was as follows. the only one that resided in Ind. was Michael Cronts or Crontz and was born in Orange Co. NY. the date not stated. He enlisted and served in NY troups from late 1775. He was allowed pension Aug. 12, 1833 when he was about 80 yrs old and living in Allen Co. Ft. Wayne Ind. Other data given, Michael Cronts Cert. 22934, issued Oct 26, 1833 at $40 per annum started Mar. 4, 1831.

12th Aug 1833 Michael Croutz a resident aged about 80 yrs having been sworn doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the act of congress June 7th 1832. He guarded Old Fort Constitutions on the East side of the Hudson River and he served four months guarding. He volunteered in Orange county NY state which said county he was born and brought up. Then in 1776 about he first of May in said year he volunteered as a Pvt. he marched to the city of New York where he says he was in the Declaration of Independence on Long Island to guard the city come took some ....“John Bally Red coats” and was in the Army when Gen. Washington and his army situated from the city this “White Plains”____ Now the Army went up the Hudson River and into the state of New York and controlled the Red coats at Hackensack . He returned home to Orange Co in the spring. He lived in Orange county about sixteen years of age and ten of which he lived in the state of Ohio and the last six years in Allen County
